My kids and I have been pretty successful at reading our scriptures. However, I'm no scriptorian (shocker!!) and can only explain exactly what is happening on the rarest of occasion.
The other night, we're plugging along somewhere in the middle of Proverbs and Zach offered this apt insight:
"This is the scriptures? What does it mean? It's more like reading a bunch of fortune cookies."
Call the prophet. He'll be so proud.
